Lance Armstrong To Join Ride 4 Yellow Event

August4
Seven-time Tour de France champion and cycling's most famous rider, Lance Armstrong confirmed his participation in the August 8th Ride 4 Yellow event in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. The news was revealed in a Twitter post from Ben Coates, who is in France representing Trek and assisting Armstrong in his quest to win his eighth Tour de France title.

"We're stoked,” said David Nagel, event director for Ride 4 Yellow. "This is really exciting. I'm pumped.”

Armstrong will ride in the Ride the Divide event, a 26-mile tour along the Continental Divide trail that will start on Rabbit Ears Pass and end at the top of the gondola at the Steamboat Ski Area. He first tackled this same course riding in the Mercury Tour in 1999, just a month after winning his first Tour de France title and capping an unbelievable comeback from cancer after his 1996 diagnosis. This ride, which requires cyclists to collect $500 in donations, is about half full, with about 100 of 200 spots filled.

"Back then, Armstrong was just another rider,” continued Nagel. "Now, a decade later, he's the world's most famous cyclist, and the news of his return had Steamboat's cycling community buzzing immediately.”

The inaugural Ride 4 Yellow, a Routt County Riders event, will take place with two simultaneous rides across individually distinct courses on Sunday, August 8th. Later that afternoon, the Ride 4 Yellow event will culminate with a Celebration with Linda Armstrong Kelly (SuperMom to the 7-time Tour de France champion) at the top of the gondola at the Steamboat Ski Resort at 9,080 feet above sea level.

The signature Divide Ride, still open for registration, is filling up quickly with Armstrong's recent announcement. The second ride option spins across the cross country trails within the Steamboat ski area. Non-riders are also encouraged to join the celebration at the top of the gondola with a special party-only price. The party includes gondola access for the day, lunch at the top of the gondola, and auction, including Linda Armstrong's keynote address.

Act now to participate, sponsor, donate, volunteer or register for the event. Late registration is open through August 7th. A complete list of participation costs, donation requirements, sponsor levels, courses as well as event registration is provided through ride4yellow.com.

Half of the proceeds raised during the event will go directly to the Lance Armstrong Foundation for cancer research on a global scale; with the remaining half going directly to a new fund set up through the Yampa Valley Community Foundation to address cancer needs across the Yampa Valley.
