Pop Artist Legend to Develop Exclusive Skins

August26
Exo-Flex announced today that it has signed an agreement with American pop artist Mitch O'Connell to develop an exclusive line of mobile, gaming, and action sports decals. The deal is the first of its kind to pair a popular artist with such a broad a range of personal adhesives—commonly known as skins.

Set to debut at San Diego's ASR Trade Show on August 13, the skins allow users to customize their mobile devices, gaming equipment, or action sports gear with exclusive art and designs. Exo-Flex, the fourth largest skin company in the United States, is the first to branch into the action sports market.

"I'm thrilled to be working with Exo-Flex,” said Mitch O'Connell, whose work has been seen in Newsweek and The New York Times, as well as featured in campaigns for McDonalds and Coca-Cola. "And I am quite pleased that even more lucky people will be able to experience the joy that comes from gazing at my amazing art.”

Six original pieces have been provided to Exo-Flex under the deal, orchestrated by Kustom Licensing CEO Sean Patterson and Exo-Flex president Titi Ngoy. Using a proprietary printing technique, the art's vivid colors are preserved intact, while an exclusive sealant procedure protects against fading, scratching of bubbling. The technology is also water-resistant, allowing large-format skins to be placed on snowboards as well as skateboards.

"If you wanted a new design before, you'd have to pay hundreds of dollars for a new board,” said Ngoy. "Now, you simply apply an Exo-Flex skin.” Mitch O'Connell is the latest high-profile artist to establish a deal with Exo-Flex, the first skin company in history to be awarded a Mobile Merit Award of Excellence for advancing the art and science of the mobile industry.

Nearly all ski areas made improvements over the summer to their snowmaking and snow grooming equipment. The following is a rundown of improvements and special offers for the 2009-2010 season. For more information, visit www.goskimichigan.com, which has quick links to Michigan ski areas.

Logging Mitigation Phase II Starts

August24
Starting possibly as early as Monday, August 23, 2010, the Steamboat Ski Area will begin the second phase of logging operations to remove approximately 30 acres of dead lodgepole pine trees from areas along the Thunderhead liftline, Burgess Creek liftline and the north facing slopes above Bashor.

"As we've seen, addressing the effects of the mountain pine beetle epidemic will span the next several years,” said Doug Allen, vice president of mountain operations for the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation. "For your safety and the safety of the crews operating in the areas, it is imperative that the public understands the dangers associated with this operation and abide by all closures/detours and keep clear of affected areas.”

This portion of the logging project is anticipated to possibly begin as early as Monday, August 23, 2010 and continue through late fall/early winter. The ski area closed daily operation last Sunday, August 22nd and will then operate weekends through September 19th.

Due to the extensive logging activity during this phase of the project, sections of the Zig Zag and Valley View mountain bike trails will be restricted from public use. Corresponding detours will be encountered and on some sections, bikes, vehicles and other traffic will share the road. Currently, no closures/detours are planned for the Thunderhead hiking trail.

This program continues to focus solely on lodgepole pines and will not affect spruce, fir and aspen. Steamboat is fortunate that the forest cover on the mountain is comprised primarily of Engelmann Spruce, Subalpine Fir, Lodgepole and Aspen as well as a few Douglas fir.
