Learn Python / Django / Cassandra - Developer - Mahalo.com (Santa Monica)

April30
We look for raw talent and turn them into superstars. Join us and learn more in a week than most places will teach you in a year.

Mahalo.com is a human-powered search service. It is one of the hottest startups on the planet right now (and in the Top 150 websites). We're well-funded by the same people that backed Google, Yahoo and YouTube (Sequoia), a well as Newscorp, Mark Cuban, Elon Musk (Paypal) and CBS. Our human-curated results (and Answers) are the very best starting page for any topic you can think of, blowing away machine-only search engines. Our growth curve in 2009 was been downright amazing (14 million uniques per month and growing)

We're looking for a few Web Developers (please note: this is a *technical* position, not a design position). You'll implement features for Mahalo.com, Mahalo Answers and several new projects we're working on, and those features will go live on the production site. A lot of other companies would stick you in 'tech support' or 'testing' as a new dev. Not us. We'll throw you in the deep end and expect you to swim -- with a little guidance from us, of course.

We're looking for people who are excited and eager to learn. We look for raw talent and make superstars. And we're a Silicon Valley-style company that happens to be in LA: this kind of opportunity is VERY rare. The rewards are potentially life-changing.

You should be be familiar with:
- HTML
- CSS
- Python
- AJAX
- Javascript
- Django

Pluses:
- Nginx
- Memcached
- Non relational databases (hbase, cassandra, hive, etc.)

You are a HANDS ON implementor, a get-it-done kind of person. You are the kind of person who shows up everyday absolutely ready to 'kill it'.

Although we work hard, we offer:
laid-back environment
competitive salary
benefits
stock options.
Mahalo Fit Club/Tae Kwon Do five days a week at 6PM (free obviously).
Healthy breakfast, lunch and mid-day Fruit Bowl service are provided daily

Please send a RESUME.

Winter Sports End The Season With A Smile

April29
The 2010 edition of the twinned "Prowinter/Alpitec” exhibition, held in Bolzano from 13-15 April, ended with highly satisfactory approval ratings on the part of both exhibitors and visitors. Approximately 9,300 professionals from the fields of winter sports, rentals and mountain technologies came to Bolzano's Trade Fair Centre to examine and admire new products and instruments displayed over 25,000 square metres by 370 different exhibitors. Of these, 37.3% stated that they were interested in both salons, further confirming the elevated synergetic and strategic value of this biennial combined event.

Three days of intense activity, featuring a throng of ski rentals companies, laboratory technicians, sports store-owners, ski area operators, ski club directors, ski schools and ski instructors filled the Fiera Bolzano pavilions, encountering exhibitors and attending numerous collateral events that were more fascinating and informative than ever before. As well as the many award ceremonies, conferences and encounters that were organised in the Forum area, the next-door Congress Centre played host to the 7° convention of funicular transport concessionaries from the Alto Adige and Tyrol regions.

A further sign of the exhibition's uniqueness and internationality was the number of visitors from abroad, coming from over 20 different countries, and especially from France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Spain and Finland. Large delegations from Chine, Russia, Turkey, Japan and Peru also visited, in a fact-finding and contact-making capacity.

Now that the event is over, it is clear that the 2010 edition of "Alpitec/Prowinter” has proved itself a highly effective promotional instrument for a thriving and extremely attractive economic sector, as well as an unmissable event for sector operators. The time of year and the setting – a prime winter tourism region in the heart of Europe – make this event a perfect shop-window for showing new products for next year's season and a prefect opportunity to draw conclusions from the season just finished. The International Skiareatests awards ceremony, which took place in the "Alpitec/Prowinter” Forum, this year proved to be a powerful attraction for the public. Over 500 invited guests enthusiastically followed the 2009/2010 winter Awards for the best ski areas, the best cable car and ski lift facilities and the best ski resorts in the Alps.

The consensus of opinion that emerged from interviews carried out during the three day event was highly encouraging. The overall impression of "Prowinter 2010” was described as being "very good” or "good” by 94.5% of visitors, "satisfactory” by 5.5%, and "unsatisfactory” by nobody. Likewise, for "Alpitec” 96.5% of visitors expressed positive opinions.

Heidi Kreusel, Marketing director of LEKI Lenhart GmbH, stated "We're pleased with attendance figures. Our brand continues to arouse a great deal of interest. We've observed a consistent demand form hire companies, which is a boom sector.” Roberta Bulgarelli, Marketing director of Extreme Winter Equipment, was also well satisfied with this edition of "Prowinter”, commenting, "Extreme is a company specialising in making ultra-technical ski-wear for skiing schools, ski clubs and shops, and the official supplier of the Fiamme Oro sporting group. We found the Prowinter experience positive, and it allowed us to make a number of important contacts of just the kind we needed.”
