DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

This position will require you to monitor our information systems to prevent unauthorized access, modification, destruction, or disclosure of information. You will be involved in designing, developing, integrating, maintaining, and operating systems to protect data, detect changes and irregularities, log and monitor activity of vital technical systems. You will work with a mixture of commercial, open-source, and home-grown products to achieve those goals. You will help sharing best practices, and learn from and help teaching a larger group of system administrators, developers, network engineers, and DBAs with skill levels varying from junior to true guru. You will write installation and configuration guides, procedures, and policies. You will occasionally simulate crises and evaluate the effectiveness of the organization's response to help it improve.

This is a security position, but previous experience in a strictly security capacity is not necessary - you just need to be a security-minded systems admin and developer.

• Develop, integrate, maintain, and operate systems for change detection and system audit for a 500 server environment, including logging, anomaly detection, and vulnerability scanning.
• Develop configuration standards and techniques for detecting deviations from those standards.
• Audit firewall rules, database permissions, account permissions.
• Ensure changes are consistent with security policy and the company's best interest.
• Identify operational risks and weak spots in the company's larger technical operations, and propose solutions.
• Research and document solutions, procedures, and policies in a knowledgebase
• System administration duties for the department’s own systems

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

• Bachelor’s in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent experience
• Very experienced (minimum 3 years) with Red Hat/CentOS – has solid Systems Administrators’ skills
• Solid background with Bash scripting; RPM/Yum; and one of: Perl & CPAN, PHP & Pear, Python & PyPI
• Decent SQL experience in any major RDBMS (MySQL, Oracle, Postgres, SQL Server)
• Experienced with subversion, diff, hashing tools, SNMP
• Experienced with Windows, Excel, Word, Visio
• Understand the fundamentals of TCP/IP, Ethernet, DNS, whois, firewalls, routing & switching
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills
• Enjoy making things work together
• Be patient and understanding but assertive

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

• Experience with Syslog-NG and other log technologies
• Experience with Nmap, tcpdump, ethereal, Foundstone, WebInspect
• Experience building RPMs
• Familiarity with Cisco and Foundry equipment, netflow tools, netfilter/iptables
• Familiarity with SSH and PGP keys, expect, RANCID, Nagios
• Experience with Sun LDAP, Active Directory LDAP, Windows GPOs, WSUS
• Experience with Graphviz, Tulip, or Visio automation
• Understanding of web application security fundamentals
