Front-end Web/HTML/CSS/JavaScript Developer (Santa Monica, CA)

TutorSource is looking for a front-end web developer to join our development team. Your primary responsibility will be to hand-code HTML, CSS, and JavaScript that matches specifications and is cross-browser compatible. You will be working with a lead designer on design specifications and with Ruby on Rails developers to integrate the HTML with the functional web application.

TutorSource (www.tutorsource.com) was founded in 2008 as a spinoff of Revolution Prep, the #1 test prep company in California. We are developing an innovative online tutoring marketplace application with education-focused social features, with the goal of providing immediate, affordable access to tutoring for all students. The application's design has grown out of Revolution Prep's experience as a provider of live standardized test prep and tutoring and close connections with high schools and colleges including UCLA. The product had its initial launch in October and is growing in both customer base and revenue.

Required skills:
  • Fluency in hand-coded HTML and CSS
  • Ability to write JavaScript code
  • Experience taking Photoshop mockups and turning them into standards-compliant HTML/CSS
  • Expertise in achieving cross-browser compatibility in IE, Firefox, and Safari
  • Experience in implementing grid-based layouts in HTML/CSS
Pluses:
  • Interest in user experience design and graphic design
  • Experience in Ruby on Rails
  • Familiarity with jQuery
  • Regular reader of A List Apart
  • Obsession with all things open source
