Another Way To Really Confuse Me.

September30

So what do you think of the Alicia Keys/Jack White(pka The White Keys…but not really) track , “Another Way To Die“?
Everything about this track tells me it should be brilliant…but I’m still not sold.  I like Jack Wite’s noise bits…the simple low register keys offset with the occasional arpeggio=radness…love the horns…but, well…I’m still on the fence.
I think what I’m not sold on is the composition.  Hearkening to former bond themes is a good idea, but there are too many parts and not enough glue.  For instance, the intro movement is pretty cinematic, but it somehow segues into the big, obvious pop chorus.  And I guess that disjointed writing style forces the arrangement to be a bit off, like those great horn parts I mentioned that don’t ebb and flow through the arrangement as they would in a great score, but just come and go as they please.
Too many chefs?
Oh well…it’s a James Bond tie-in.  Hopefully there’s a cool video…like THIS ONE
