Systems Architect

The Systems Architect position is responsible for working with Riot Games and our hosting partners to establish an infrastructure design that supports a high performance, highly available game service. This role is also responsible for assisting with establishing and maintaining our development environments.

Responsibilities

• Analyze game application and help design infrastructure for optimum performance and scalability
• Lead Riot Games design of back-end services infrastructure collaborating with Engineering, Solutions Providers, and Live Services
• Assist in performance/scale tests and analyze results to make recommendations as appropriate to improve performance and scalability
• Evaluate hardware and software technologies to improve game efficiency and performance
• Help troubleshoot and solve issues with hardware, applications, and network components
• Document current and future configuration processes and policies
• Work directly with publishing partners to implement infrastructure and support processes in their regions.
• Assist with Systems Administration of development environment
• Assist with vendor management
• Assist with managing infrastructure implementation


Requirements
B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent experience
• Experience working with Unix variants, including Linux (RHEL4/5, CentOS4/5, Ubuntu) and Solaris
• Strong background/interest in application and infrastructure design
• Scripting and programming skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Previous experience working with and integrating CDN solutions
• Intimate knowledge of common Java enterprise patterns and best practices
• Experience monitoring, deploying, and troubleshooting message-based systems (i.e. JMS providers like ActiveMQ and Sonic ProgressMQ)
• Experience working with high-capacity, internet-based infrastructures


Preferred
• Experience maintaining and administering Oracle 10g/11g (including RAC, grid, and partitioning) is a plus.
• Familiarity with Adobe AIR/Flex
• Experience working with distributed caching solutions and data grids, most specifically Oracle Coherence

Job Description

* Take ownership of major features and components of our back-end system
* Work closely with game designers, game programmers and QA to deliver industry-leading enterprise gaming solutions
* Architect, design and implement major features and components from user stories
* Drive major design decisions of software architecture and functionality

* Help drive effective process, design, and coding standards for software development.

Requirements

* Several years of experience developing software, preferably in an agile environment

* Experience with multiple programming languages a plus
